Friends for Life was started for many reasons - one of those reasons was my mom. I watched my mom battle breast cancer for 5 years. During these years, I saw her struggling financially with the many trips for treatment and doctor's visits. When she lost her battle with cancer on Christmas Day of 1997, I knew then that I wanted to make a difference in others' fight against cancer.
We had a dream to form Friends for Life to help others. We had no idea that this dream would become so big and help so many wonderful friends who are or have battled cancer. We are so blessed with the support of our community who have helped us help so many people.

Friends For Life is near and dear to me for the basic idea that it is friends helping friends.

Friends For Life means a lot to me because we are able to help and support those in our own wonderful community who are fighting cancer.

Our family has personally experienced the wrath of cancer; the endless trips to treatment, scans and appointments. I remember getting meals brought to us from people in the community when my mom was sick and doing treatment in Colorado. I’m honored that I can now be on the giving end of that for families in our community.

Friends for Life has always been special to me because it’s so much more than making a donation. It’s about making a difference for those in our community.

As a teenager I lost my mom to breast cancer, she was only 40. I had two younger siblings and my parents ran their own propane business. I first hand saw the effects that cancer has on not only the patient, but our entire family. Through the years of treatments, including 2 months spent in Colorado for a bone marrow transplant, this community came to our family's aid. Driving the propane truck, preparing meals, transporting kids to practices, and even holding a community benefit. At the young age of 18 I was impacted by the love and generosity of our friends in our small town. I am truly blessed to be part of Friends For Life and can only hope that I can help to offer the same love and support that was shown to us.

Kathe has been helping us since the beginning of Friends for Life, and she created our logo when we first started in 2004. She has made the sponsorship ribbons that are displayed in the windows of our sponsors. While she was an Art teacher at YCHS, she enlisted the creativity of her students which was a great way to get the high school kids involved in FFL. Since her retirement, she continues to make the ribbons.
Kathe also does the names for our “in memory” and “in honor” recognitions that are displayed every year during the walk. The big pink ribbon, made out of ceramic pieces, that is proudly displayed in front of the bank during the month of October was designed and created by Kathe and her students.
Every year we rely on Kathe to be our photographer during the pink lady celebration and during the walk. Her talent is amazing and her heart is huge as she always gives more than expected.
We are blessed to have Kathe as our Honorary member of Friends for Life. Her work and dedication to Friends for Life is very much appreciated!
